Vigils for Peace and Justice |
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 16, 2002, VANCOUVER - Activists continued their weekly Vigils for Peace and Justice downtown in pouring rain this weekend. They were accompanied for the first time by the Solidarity Notes choir. |
They handed passing shoppers a leaflet which questions information about the war in the regular media. It also lists website addresses of independent news sources, FAQs (frequently asked questions), and a "You Can Do Something" section. |
|
Several activists began the vigils on September 17, 2001, just days after the World Trade Centre towers were destroyed. The vigils were in opposition to the war in Afghanistan, and to the racial hatred and attacks on civil liberties in the aftermath of September 11. They have continued every Saturday at noon at various Vancouver locations, most recently at the corner of Georgia and Granville in the heart of downtown Vancouver. New participants are encouraged.
