Hargrove is President of the Canadian Auto Workers' union (CAW), the largest private sector union in the country. A former auto worker himself, he rose through the ranks to become the CAW's National President. He had never written a book, but friends and colleagues convinced him to write Labour of Love argueing that as a progressive labour leader, he had a unique and valuable perspective on the struggle against corporate rule. It's a perspective that includes a critical look at the NDP (Canada's labour-backed New Democratic Party), and raises the possibility of a new political grouping that more effectively represents working people.
