CUPE BC
Public Forum
on Water

Thursday May 24, 2001, Coast Stanley Park Hotel, Vancouver

The Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) is considering a plan to privatize the new water treatment plant which will provide drinking water to lower mainland residents. Who should be managing our water resources? Private business or elected governments? Can global trade agreements like NAFTA and FTAA make it difficult to get control back once we've handed it over? Who can we trust to provide water that's safe, affordable and accountable?

These are some of the questions examined at the Canadian Union of Public Employees - B.C. Division (CUPE BC) Public Forum on Water, Thursday May 24, 2001 in Vancouver. Keynote speakers were Elizabeth May, Executive Director of the Sierra Club of Canada, and Barry O'Neill, President of CUPE BC.
