May 10 2006 "Let's Make It Happen!" : Child Care Forum |
Webcast highlights from the May 10 2006 "Child care – let’s make it happen!" forum, held at Collingwood Neighbourhood House in Vancouver, sponsored by the BC Government & Services Employees' Union , and the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC. |
The BCGEU and the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of B.C. have joined forces to build support at the community level to create a quality, non-profit, accessible child care system. More Child Care – Let’s Make It Happen community forums are scheduled this spring around B.C. in Nanaimo, May 17; Kamloops, May 31; and Kelowna TBA. For more info: Lori Strom, BCGEU Victoria 250-388-9948 or 1-800-667-1033. The Harper minority government broke the Child Care promise by refusing to honor the provincial-federal government agreements signed in 2005 that would provide $5 billion in federal funding over five years (2004/05 to 2009/10) to create a quality, national child care system in Canada. While the Harper government's taxable family allowance will help some families, it does not create the sustainable child care spaces that are desparately needed. |
