THURSDAY JANUARY 16, 2003, VANCOUVER: Scottish midwife and union activist Carolyn Leckie continued her tour of B.C. hospitals speaking to a meeting of the Hospital Employees' Union, St. Paul's Hospital local. She described how unionized workers in Scotland are successfully fighting back against the privatization of health care support services. Leckie is the Branch Secretary for Glasgow North UNISON hospitals in Scotland. UNISON is Britain's largest trade union with over 1.3 million members. In 2002 Leckie and her union successfully battled the multi-national corporation Sodexho for fair wages and benefits for hospital workers. Click on the links below for webcasts of her comments. |
