Nov. 30 1999 Rally: tens of thousands packed this Seattle centre stadium for an AFL-CIO sponsored rally prior to a giant march of 50,000 against the WTO.



The last program in our 6 weeks long series on Global Capital and the World Trade Organization, this week we bring you highlights from the rally in Seattle on November 30 against the World Trade Organization, sponsored by the AFL-CIO.


Linda Chavez-Thompson
AFL-CIO Executive Vice-President, introduced several speakers at the rally.

Amparo Reyes who works in a Mexican "Maquila" near the U.S. border, described how NAFTA and "free" trade had affected her wages and working conditions.



Glen Mpufane a miner from South Africa described how the global economy is oppressing workers in his country.

George Becker, President of the 700,000 member USWA (Steelworkers' Union) asked "who the hell asked for the WTO? did any of you?".



Kelly Amrstrong from Students Against Sweat Shops, which has members on 150 U.S. & Canadian campuses.
